| Planned Parenthood of North Texas will present childcare supplies and clothing to homeless and displaced women and their kids on Friday, May 8th – the culmination of its 5th annual “Meet the Need for Moms in May” program.
It’s a timely effort in the same week that the number of homeless children in Dallas is revealed to be up 15 percent from just two years ago. (City of Dallas and Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, 4/22/09)
Donations have been more difficult to gather during the current economic crisis, but Planned Parenthood supporters still provided hundreds and hundreds of pounds’ worth. Next year the agency will expand its efforts into Denton County.
Every April, PPNT supporters and patients donate hundreds of new and unused childcare supplies and clothing items—which go to The Vogel Alcove, a childcare center for the homeless, and to SafeHaven, a domestic violence shelter in Tarrant County.
(Additional supplies go to Hope’s Door of Collin County, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children in Plano which is in a secure location – not open to press.)
