Dallas Peer Educator Group holding open auditions for high-school students
Teen group targets tough issues facing youth in North Texas

DALLAS – Auditions are being held the first week of May for Planned Parenthood of North Texas' (PPNT) award-winning peer education group, TeenAge Communication Theatre (TACT).

The PPNT-sponsored group consists of high school students from the Dallas area who perform original, interactive theatre pieces about issues that affect today's youth. The performances present accurate, straightforward information on sexual health, HIV and AIDS, drug abuse, pregnancy, dating violence and alcoholism.

This spring, the group was chosen from thousands of applicants by the national Planned Parenthood organization to attend its Young Leaders Council and National Youth Summit in Washington, DC. Last year TACT provided 41 performances in North Texas for more than 3,000 individuals, and have provided hundreds of performances since their founding in 1983.

The cast of peer educators perform throughout the year for diverse groups in the North Texas area, including schools, synagogues, churches, shelters for teen mothers and community centers. To remain current on their skills and their information, members go through a training process each summer with local theatre and health-education professionals in each of the areas discussed.

"The TeenAge Communication Theatre (TACT) is really important to the community; I know that first-hand from what I see at our performances," said Brett Bode, 2006-2008 TACT performer and high-school student. "We're teaching other kids what they didn't know – things that might help them avoid being in one of the situations we're presenting."

Auditions take place Thursday, May 1 and Saturday, May 3 in Dallas.
To sign up for auditions or for more information, please contact Cindy Davis by phone 214-363-2004 ext.183 or by email to Cindy.Davis@ppnt.org.

Eligible candidates must be in the 9th through 12th grades during the 2008-2009 school year. No acting experience is required.
