Local Agencies Join to Educate Local At-Risk Youth
More than 200 expected to attend Planned Parenthood of North Texas’ (PPNT) 19th Annual Teen Savvy conference

DALLAS - For the 19th year, more than 200 at-risk youth will participate in a variety of social workshops designed to inspire teens to make good decisions during the difficult transition from adolescence to adulthood at PPNT's annual "Teen Savvy" conference Thursday, July 26 at T.W. Browne Middle School in Dallas at 3333 Sprague Drive from 10am to 3pm.

More than a dozen agencies including the Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas, Inc., Nexus Recovery Center, and YWCA Women's Resource Center are collaborating with PPNT to have local community experts offer informational sessions for youth ranging from age 11 to 17.  Workshops offered discuss communication skills, career planning, positive body image, expect respect, dating violence, values clarification, gangs and HIV/AIDS.  During the conference, awards are given to students who even as teenagers have had to overcome extreme obstacles in their lives and demonstrated leadership abilities in their communities.

All participants are required to sign up for Teen Savvy prior to the event and can attend only with their parent or guardian's permission.  Student workshops are divided into two groups by age.  Students will participate in two workshops, see a TeenAge Communication Theater (TACT) performance and will be provided with lunch and a t-shirt.  Dr. Nita Evans will be the featured inspirational speaker.
