Without the funding and the help I get from Planned Parenthood, I could not afford to go to the doctor at all. I would not have birth control and I would not be able to get any medical help. I work at Wal-Mart and raise an 18 month old with no financial help other than food stamps and Planned Parenthood is a great deal of help to me.

I started going to Planned Parenthood shortly before joining the military. The Air Force was unwilling to give me a choice about the gender of my health care provider. I have always been more comfortable discussing women’s health care issues with a woman. In the Air Force you have no right to specify this preference, rather, you see whoever happens to be available. Planned Parenthood has been there for me in every corner of the country.

I am a sexually active teenage boy. I came to Planned Parenthood to be checked for an STD. I was lucky I did not have one, but they educated me on the use of condoms for the prevention of pregnancy and spread of STDs. Education is prevention.

Ovarian cysts are very painful, especially without my prescription. My insurance calls it “elective” care. I can’t choose when I hurt and when I don’t. Without my prescription, how can my health insurance choose when they will help me? Without Planned Parenthood, I would not have been able to keep my physically demanding job I love and my lifestyle. Thank you Planned Parenthood.

When I was 16 years old I became pregnant. I decided to keep my son Cary and have lived through the trials of a young marriage, raising a child, and finishing school. Had Cary’s father not stood by me, had I not received a scholarship to college, I question whether I would be a medical student today. Unfortunately, many young girls faced with unplanned pregnancies scramble for the rest of their lives to raise their children while their dreams die. Not everyone can make the same choice – nor should they have to.
