ACCESS DENIED IN TEXAS

  • In March 2004, a CVS pharmacist in North Richland Hills refused to fill a married woman’s prescription for birth control pills, because the pharmacist didn’t believe in birth control.

  • In January 2004, an Eckerd’s pharmacist in Denton refused to fill a rape victim’s prescription for emergency contraception (EC), because he mistakenly thought it ended a life.

  • Texas repealed its contraceptive equity law during the 2003 legislative session. Now health insurance companies in Texas can offer plans that do not cover birth control.

  • A Texas legislative committee refused to vote on a bill that would inform sexual assault survivors in the emergency room about the option of emergency contraception (EC) and proved survivors with the medication if they requested it.
