Summary: The Unintended Pregnancy Reduction Act would require states to provide Medicaid coverage for family planning services and supplies to all women who would be entitled to Medicaid-funded pregnancy care if they become pregnant.
PPNT Position: Support—A recent Guttmacher Institute report showed that low-income women are losing critical ground when it comes to avoiding unintended pregnancies. Medicaid coverage of family planning services is proven effective in helping low-income women avoid unintended pregnancies. The Unintended Pregnancy Reduction Act would expand family planning Medicaid coverage, thereby reducing intended pregnancies and abortions and saving state and federal government money.
