Summary: FOCA would restore the reproductive rights recognized in the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, by prohibiting the government from interfering with a woman’s right to choose to bear a child or terminate a pregnancy.
PPNT Position: Support—Following the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to uphold the federal abortion ban without regard for women’s health, it is clear that reproductive choice is currently threatened in a way it hasn’t been since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The Court has turned its back on 34 years of precedent by upholding an abortion restriction that does not include an exception to protect the health of a woman. The Freedom of the Choice Act would codify Roe v. Wade and protect women’s health by guaranteeing the right to choose for future generations of women.
